Being Baptised

…as children

Many parents like to have a church service for their new child, and we would be delighted to help you if you live in Seaton Sluice or New Hartley, or if you are regular worshippers at one of our churches.

Baptisms normally take place at one of our regular Family Services at St. Paulís or St. Michaelís.

When a child is baptised, he or she is received into the community of Christís Church on the basis of statements of faith and belief made by the parents and godparents. Such promises need to be understood, and we will do our best to help you.

Next Steps

You will need to contact the Rev. David Bowler on 0191 237 1982 or email djbowler@sky.com. Two members of the Church will then arrange to visit you to talk through the options. After this, one of the clergy team will visit you to fix a date for your special service.

Öas adults

When a person is old enough to want to affirm the promises made at his or her baptism for themselves, he or she does so before the Bishop. This service is called 'Confirmation' and happens every two years in one of the churches in the parish. At the same service, adults who have never been baptised as a child are also baptised by the Bishop.
